workshop as a child initiated me into the mysteries of casting
shapes – the hollow (empty) mould filled with
the solid material, the space becoming an echo of the shape

I have been concerned with this intriguing
state of affairs all my working life. Recently, I have deliberately
reduced my catalogue of forms to simple geometry, implicated
as it is in the structural underpinning of all matter, so
a common and universal language. The fall of light on forms
is the means by which we understand them. I am researching
the introduction of integral light sources into my sculptures
in order to amplify the essential qualities of shapes and
to establish the possibility of illusion. A new and exciting
journey.
